MF Anemone Incident

The MF Anemone Incident was a horrific incident that happened on September 11, 2010. At exactly 5 pm on September 11, 2010, all 220 passengers onboard the MF Anemone from Kagoshima to Tanegashima collapsed simultaneously and lost consciousness, for reasons still unknown. There were no casualties reported. Kaito Yashio and Akiho Senomiya were the only ones who suffered side effects from a chronic syndrome known as Elephant Mouse Syndrome, which periodically causes their time perceptions to change for a short period.

The ship is called the S.S. Anemone in the Robotics;Notes anime but the MF Anemone in the Robotics;Notes Elite visual novel. MF is a ship prefix for a motor ferry (a passenger ferry powered by an engine or motor), while SS is a ship prefix for a single-screw steamship (a steam-powered ship with a single propeller, with the propeller called a “screw”). The appearance of the MF Anemone in the anime is based on the real-world Princess Wakasa, a car ferry that connects Nishinoomote Port in northern Tanegashima with Kagoshima Port South Pier on the larger island of Kyushu.

It is later revealed that the MF Anemone Incident was the result of a NOAH technology- (or an early version of the Noah IV) based experiment done by Kou Kimijima on the passengers of the ship, and that Misaki Senomiya put a stop to this inhumane experiment by killing Kimijima. After this, the cyber ghost of Kou Kimijima in the IRUO. network haunted Misaki, who felt guilty for having killed Kimijima, until she eventually gave in and was brainwashed by the cyber ghost of KouKimijima into working for the Committee of 300, which Kimijima was a member of. Still, Misaki’s heroic intervention saved the lives of Kaito Yashio and Misaki’s younger sister Akiho Senomiya, and it also delayed the implementation of Kou Kimijima’s plans when his original body died.
