The Robotics Research Club (ロボティクス部), at the time of its inception known as the Robotics Research Association, is a club at Chuo Tanegashima High. According to club president Akiho Senomiya, they are dedicated to building awesome, fully functioning, giant robots like Gunvarrel. They are typically at odds with their high school board who fail to see the practicality of investing the school budget into building robots.
At the beginning of the series, the club is in danger of being disbanded due to not having enough members (the only two members being Akiho Senomiya and Kaito Yashio), so they have to recruit new members, find more sources of funding, and put in a lot of work to not only build giant robots but even just to stay in existence. They start small and get involved in robot fighting championships involving small robots, since their existing giant robot, GunBuild-1, which Misaki Senomiya started building years ago back when she was club president, is incomplete and would take way too much work to get working, and building small robots like TanegashiMachine Advance is easier.
Later on, they get back to work on making giant robots again, building a new giant robot called GunBuild-2 that is completely redesigned to be more practical, and upgrading the original, incomplete GunBuild-1 into a complete, working giant robot called Super GunBuild-1. They use augmented reality technology from the IRUO. App to make their giant robots look like Gunvarrel, the giant robot featured in the Mobile Battler Gunvarrel anime and the Kill-Ballad game.
Akiho Senomiya mostly brings passion for building giant robots as her main asset, and also works very hard. Kaito Yashio is fairly lazy, but he is an extremely skilled gamer and his skills at fighting games also make him really good at fighting with remote-controlled fighting robots. Subaru Hidaka is very smart and practical-minded, and helps keep people grounded in reality as far as the designs go for giant robots. Junna Daitoku's techniques in karate are copied by the robots, and she also helps the club receive funding from the Space Candy Company. Kona Furugoori is a very skilled programmer as the creator of the game Kill-Ballad, and puts her skills to use in programming the robots. All five of them bring unique assets that are necessary for the Robotics Research Club to meet its goals.
