"Hey Aki, I'd be so happy if you could fulfill my dream."

Misaki Senomiya (瀬乃宮 みさ希) is the current spokeswoman for Exoskeleton, a robotics company and the older sister of Akiho Senomiya.

She started the Robotics Research Association while attending Chuo Tanegashima High. She graduated from a university outside Tanegashima.

Character Overview[]

Personality[]

In her youth, Misaki was shown to be a passionate and idealistic young woman, often spouting her ambitions and hopes for others. She was very fond of robots and planned to create a robot based on the anime Gunvarrel, which she deemed GunBuild-1. These traits would later be inherited by her sister, Akiho, who became determined to finish what she started.

During the course of the series however, Misaki is depicted as solemn, emotionless and even cynical. Having seemingly lost her once burning love of robots, Misaki does not even bother to keep in contact with her friends or family anymore. It is implied that she became this way shortly before she left Akiho, whom she coldly told would never be any more than mediocre at robot building, a belief she still stands by even to this day. She even tells Kaito that the reason she entrusted him to look after Akiho was to keep her from following in her footsteps, believing she'd be wasting her time.

It is later revealed Misaki's persona was the influence of Kou Kimijima, having been under the control of the AI version of himself for the past nine years. It is, however, implied that she became more cynical after she murdered the real Kimijima, which allowed his ghost to possess her in the first place. While possessed, Misaki retains at least a portion of her consciousness but most of her actions and personality are subliminally influenced by Kimijima. After Kaito destroys the AI, Misaki seems to have returned to her former self, as she is shown smiling at her sister for the first time in years.

Skills & Abilities[]

While in high school, Misaki was a skilled roboticist and made impressive progress on the construction of the GunBuild-1 Gunvarrel

giant robot, though she was not able to complete it herself. She also participated in and won several Robo-One tournaments during her high school career. As a spokeswoman for EXOSKELETON, Misaki possesses confident speaking skills. While under the control of Kimijima's cyber-ghost, Misaki is able to easily pilot militaristic robots to great effect.

Appearance[]

Misaki is a fairly tall woman with matching brown hair and eyes. She is typically dressed in professional, office-appropriate clothing.

In her youth, Misaki's hairstyle featured bangs and a ponytail similar to Akiho's, tied up with a bow. She wore the school uniform of Tanegashima school with a sailor suit, pleated skirt, short stockings and loafers.

Robotics;Notes: The Unpublished Memoirs of Senomiya Misaki[]

On July 22, 2009, when Misaki was 15, she found a phone lying on the ground and encountered Airi on it. A few days later, Airi took Misaki to the laboratory to meet Kou Kimijima, Airi's creator and the owner of the phone, in person. During the various visits, he talked to her about how his AI, Airi, works, technological progress and philosophical thoughts regarding humanity. Misaki herself confided in him her life and struggles at school, making him figure out that she did not want to feel forced to make friends. After he suggested making friends as her brain is still developing and meeting different people to wisen, she attempted becoming friends with Mizuka Irei, but failed due to not even knowing her name.

In the meantime, Misaki became increasingly determined to build a robot, partly because she wanted Kimijima to take notice of her more, but also due to her promise with Akiho to build one. Despite a lack of friends, she founded the Robotics Research Association on the very first day of starting high school and proclaimed herself president of it. After making up with Mizuka and being introduced to Mitsuhiko Nagafukada, all of them began carrying out the first club activities of the Robotics Research Association.

One day, when she found out that the real Airi, Airi Yukifune, had been put into cryogenic sleep in Kou Kimijima's basement, Kimijima revealed the truth about Airi Yukifune. He explained that he works for the Committee of 300 and must fulfill his duty to save humankind. He went on by telling her that he had brainwashed her with a device from the start as part of his experiments on the human mind, having made her slowly fall in love with him. Kou Kimijima then proceeded to brainwash her further so that she would assist in carrying out his experiments. Misaki herself, however, suddenly did not feel any discomfort by this, having already been brainwashed to the point of accepting most of Kimijima's actions and demands.

Robotics;Notes[]

When Kou Kimijima started an experiment on the MF Anemone that would have killed every onboard, Misaki, who just happened to go to meet him at his house, tried to stop him to save her friend Kaito Yashio and her little sister Akiho who were on the ship. This resulted in her bashing his head in with a bat, killing him, which put a stop to the experiment before anyone could die. Misaki felt incredibly guilty after murdering him and hoped that her crime would never be uncovered, but when the unfinished AI version of Kou Kimijima started haunting her relentlessly after a month, reminding her of the murder she committed, her mental state deteriorated. She distanced herself from her sister, Kaito and the Robotics Association more and more to keep them uninvolved and because she did not feel like she deserved to be affiliated with something built on such positivity. She even attempted turning herself in, but the police did not believe her. By the time of her high school graduation, Misaki was broken by the guilt and the AI Kimijima would go on to "possess" her. She followed Kimijima's various instructions, and planted the Kimijima reports and came up with their flags. Everytime she was about to commit suicide, Kimijima intervened and took control of her. Kimijima's influence on her often made her unable to recall specific memories, such as those that occured recently. Ironically, Misaki would be made a key pawn in the genocide plan that she desperately tried to avoid.

Etymology[]

  • The name Misaki is written in kanji/hiragana (みさ希), which has no special meaning except the kanji "希" means "hope". However, when part of the name Misa is written in kanji (美沙, 海沙, 三幸 or 三桜), it could possibly mean:

    • 海沙 - "sea, ocean" (海) (mi) and "sand" (沙) (sa).
    • 三幸 - "three" (三) (mi) and "happiness, good luck" (幸) (sa).
