JAXA, short for the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, is the Japanese space agency, their equivalent of NASA. They were formed in 2003 from the merger of 3 space-related agencies in Japan, Japan's Institute of Space and Astronautical Science (ISAS), the National Aerospace Laboratory of Japan (NAL), and the National Space Development Agency of Japan (NASDA). For more information you can read about JAXA on Wikipedia.

JAXA's main rocket launch site is on the island of Tanegashima, the Tanegashima Space Center. The Tanegashima Space Center is one of the main locations of Robotics;Notes. It is where Nae Tennouji works as an engineer and scout, and Kenichiro Senomiya (the father of Akiho Senomiya and Misaki Senomiya) is in charge of the Tanegashima Space Center.

JAXA helps to support the activities of the Robot Research Club of Chuo Tanegashima High, led by club president Akiho Senomiya, who has a similar personality to JAXA engineer/scout Nae Tennouji. This is part of their Robotics Support Project, to support robotics education for the next generation of people who will work for JAXA or in other robotics-related jobs in the Japanese economy.
